Triathlon Trip to Budapest, Hungary

September 8–13, 2010, $1,320 USD* or $1,540 AUD* (single supplement $240 USD or $290 AUD)

  • Accommodation in Budapest is arranged in a beautiful 4-star, Art-Nouveau hotel that is connected to the famous Gellert Spa – guests have a free access to this classic thermal bath through a private elevator.
  • If you want to save some money off the trip price and prefer simpler accommodation, please let us know and we can arrange different accommodation for you.

 Overview

Join us to explore triathlon races around the world! This year, we are going to take you to beautiful Budapest in Hungary to race in the ITU Triathlon World Championship (subject to the appropriate qualification criteria). The trip will be followed by our Budapest to Prague bike tour. You can bring your friends and/or family with you even if they are not going to participate in the race. Everybody is welcome to join us for the above-mentioned cycling tour after the race (the tour starts on September 13, 2010 in Budapest).

We are donating $50 for each person who will participate in the race and for their travelling companion(s) who will also join us for our Prague to Budapest tour to the Luke Kempson Foundation.

The Race

- Olympic

  • Swim – one loop in the Danube River; the temperature of the river should be around 20º C in September, which is also the deciding temperature for using wetsuits – it can go either way.
  • Bike – 3 laps, flat; spectator attractive settings partially along the river.
  • Run – 5km- run towards the Budapest’s historical centre followed by two 2.5-km loops in the centre, flat.

- Sprint

  • Swim – one loop in the Danube River; the temperature of the river should be around 20º C in September, which is also the deciding temperature for using wetsuits – it can go either way.
  • Bike – 2 laps, flat; spectator attractive settings along the river.
  • Run – 5km- run to the historical centre of Budapest, flat.

  • 5 nights lodging in a 4-star hotel.

  • Our SAG van with a driver available to you everyday from 7.00 a.m. to 7 p.m. – training and/or sightseeing upon request.

Itinerary*

Day One (September 8): Budapest - check-in, welcome dinner and orientation meeting at 7.00 p.m. at the hotel restaurant

Day Two (September 9): training and/or sightseeing based on your needs (van available for transportation), group dinner at 7:30 p.m. at the hotel restaurant

Day Three (September 10): training and/or sightseeing based on your needs (van available for transportation)

Day Four (September 11): training and/or sightseeing based on your needs (van available for transportation)

Day Five (September 12): sightseeing based on your needs (van available for transportation), farewell dinner at 7:30 p.m. at the hotel restaurant

Day Six (September 13): while the trip is officially over after breakfast at our Hotel, we hope that you will join us for our Budapest to Prague via Bratislava and Vienna cycling tour, which starts at 1.00 p.m. with an one-hour boat tour of Budapest. Transportation

Budapest is serviced by Ferihegy Airport. They have a very informative website www.bud.hu/english with information on airlines and the efficient transportation system from an to the airport to and from Budapest. Some of the airlines servicing Budapest Airport are: KLM, Malév, Lufthansa, British Airways, Delta Airlines, Austrian Airlines, etc.

Bike Rental

If you wish to rent a bike from us, we have the following road bikes available: Fuji Newest 1 and Fuji Newest 2 (2007). The price for renting these bikes for the race is $100 USD ($130 AUD).

When you register for the trip, we will send you a Welcome Letter containing pre-trip details including information on airfare, requirements for traveling abroad, useful information on Hungary, how and what to pack, transporting your bike, etc.
